"Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:4." KJV

                                                           Meaning of Idols

  • Counterfeit
  • An object of worship
  • An image of a god.
         Idol was first mentioned in the Bible in Lev.19:4, where God warns us not to turn unto idols nor make to ourselves molten gods.

"Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow unto it; for i am the LORD your God. Leviticus 26:1."KJV

          In actual fact, before Christianity came into our land, our great-grand-fathers were worshiping idols. Hence, we all have idolatry background and this background has caused a lot of untold hardship and problems for man inform of :

  • Backwardness
  • Poverty
  • Stagnancy
  • Afflictions
  • Incurable diseases
  • Fruit of the womb
  • Problems
  • Marital failure
  • Academic failure
  • Spirit of non-achievement
  • Destiny wastage
  • Business failure
  • Mysterious death, e.t.c
        Rachael died for handling the idols of her father's house  (Gen.31:30; 35:17).
There is a personal idol, family idol, ancestral idol, territorial idol and a national idol.

        Shrines behind most homes in Africa symbolizes idols. Altars erected all over our land are idolatry. Some people in certain parts of the world to go to their villages for certain demonic ceremonies.  This make them to become candidates of local idols because what they actual do there,is to renew covenants with :
  • Evil idols
  • Evil rivers
  • Evil mountains
  • And evil forests.
Many of our houses are built on dead bodies
Some of our markets are citadel of idols and evil altars
Even some names glorify idols with attendant problems
Jewellery is idolatry.

        Several terrible covenants were made with the idols hence, the idols demand everlasting worship and allegiance without which there shall be great rage from them.  Many people are not aware of these covenants and are thus being regularly controlled by the idols. No matter where you are in the world, their spiritual power will catch you up.  These idols can bless you with certain things but will take them back in multiples because the devil has no free gift.

                       CHARACTERISTICS OF IDOLS
  • They are very destructive
  • They are fierce and resolute
  • They can terminate ones joy
  • Can cause bad dreams
  • Can pollute success
  • They have sound memory register
  • They have no respect for geographical location, personality, status, education.
  • Incessant witchcraft attacks
  • Can choke ones life out
  • They can turn marriage upside down
  • Can cage children
  • Can cause barrenness
  • They can destroy ones potential
  • They can supervise covenants
  • They can ruin business
  • They strengthens familiar spirits
  • They can make all members of one family marry an idol
  • They promote stagnancy and backwardness
  • They are evil remote-controlling powers
  • Blood thirsty
  • Unpardonable mistakes
  • They can make people from good homes to marry wrong people
  • They are in-charge of unexplainable affliction
          God commands that we must not go near idols, touch them, eat their foods, sacrifice to them, worship them, fear them, burn incense to them, bow down to them, listen to their instructions, enquire from them, dance to their music, make covenants with them, keep them in your homes; else we shall be polluted.

         God told the Israelites to demolish, destroy, breakdown, smash, burn and wipe out all idols of the nation around them.  God says that He would visit future generations of Idolatry. (Exod. 20:4-5; Deut. 5:8-9; Psalm 105:4-8). You too, must avoid them and destroy the ones in your environment. 

                                           Way out
  1. Repentance
  2. Address the covenant made with them
  3. Find out idols worshipped in your father's house and deal with them one by one.
  4. Speak words of destruction to them
  5. Make atonement with the blood of Jesus
  6. Pray prophetic prayers to reverse all evils performed by the idols
  7. Engage yourself in spiritual warfare to free yourself and your environment.
                                       Prayer Points

  • My father have mercy upon my life, in Jesus name.
  • Blood of Jesus arise and speak for me, in the name of Jesus.
  • Every ancestral idol attached to my destiny, die in the name of Jesus.
  • You the idol of my father's house claiming the ownership of my life, you are a liar die, in Jesus name.
  • Every conscious and unconscious covenant between me and the idol of my father's house, break and release me in Jesus name.
  • Properties of any idol in my life, catch fire and burn to ashes in the name of Jesus.
  • Every territorial and ancestral idol that has been working against my glory, die by fire in the name of Jesus.
  • O God arise by the power of your deliverance, visit my foundation and deliver me, in the name of Jesus.
  • Where is the Lord God of Elijah, arise deliver me from the collective captivity of my father's and my mother's house in the name of Jesus.
  • Begin to thank God for answered prayers.
